PORTFOLIO: US-DAKOTA WAR OF 1862

2012 marked the 150th anniversary of the U.S.-Dakota War of 1862, a forgotten and overlooked story of conflict between Dakota Indians and European White Settlers in nineteenth century Minnesota. The war resulted in the largest mass execution in U.S. history, and the exile of the Dakota people from the state of Minnesota. In a radio story called "Little War on the Prairie," reporter John Biewen examines the complex issues that led to the war, and looks at where the Dakota people are today. These images, along with a collection of historical photographs, accompany his radio story.
